The bowstring is pulled taut.
In that instant,
All that ever was
Or will be
Converges
To a point of
Pure potentiality.
In that instant,
The training,
The encouraging
Or discouraging word
Of a parent,
The harsh or gentle word
Over breakfast,
The up-coming meeting,
All are present.
But forget all that!
Just breathe!

SPACES

We leave spaces between words when we write,
else the words run together, becoming meaningless.
The musician knows that the silence between the notes
is as important as the notes themselves.
The artist leaves ‘white space’,
else the picture becomes ‘too busy’ and loses its appeal.
When my life becomes too busy,
it loses its meaning and it’s beauty.
Take time today for Nothing,
even if it is only for a few moments.
Create some Space today,
even if it is only an inch or two.
Leave something out, so that what is left in
can bring Meaning and Beauty to your life.

Friend

FRIEND

There is a part of us that some call “The Higher Self”,
the “God within”, “Spirit”, or “Soul”.

Some would make distinctions among these things,
but such distinctions just confuse me. To me, it’s simply
the part of me that wakes up when I meditate,
or just get quiet–you can call it what you want.

The Sufi mystic Rumi calls it his “Friend”.
He tells of sitting on the riverbank and talking with his Friend
for hours in utter bliss.

Think of how it feels to see an old friend again — the joy,
the excitement, the sense of coming home.

I invite you to take some time today to commune with your Friend.
